SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 26, 2012 – Blue Coat Systems, Inc. a leading provider of Web security and WAN optimization solutions, today announced that it has named David Murphy to the position of president and chief operating officer, reporting directly to Greg Clark, chief executive officer at Blue Coat Systems.

Mr. Murphy brings to Blue Coat more than 25 years of security, infrastructure and networking experience with FORTUNE Global 500 companies and provides in-depth operational execution and channel expertise. In his role, Mr. Murphy will lead the sales and marketing organizations, working closely with the existing leaders to execute the company's go-to-market and channel strategies.

"David has a successful track record of driving market expansion and operational excellence at established companies such as IBM Tivoli, HP and Mercury Interactive and in-depth knowledge of the requirements of FORTUNE Global 500 companies," said Mr. Clark. "He brings management expertise and industry savvy that will be instrumental as we drive the next wave of growth at Blue Coat by delivering the innovations that will transform how businesses secure and accelerate their networks."

Before joining Blue Coat, Mr. Murphy was senior vice president for HP's LaserJet and Enterprise Solutions business unit within HP's Imaging and Printing Group (IPG). In this role, he set the group's go-to-market strategy and worked closely with the channel to drive growth across all customer segments. He joined HP through its acquisition of Mercury Interactive, where he was chief financial officer and facilitated the company's acquisition by HP. In his role, he was responsible for the company's finance and business operations as well as market expansion and acquisitions.

Prior to that, Mr. Murphy was president and general manager of IBM Tivoli, a leader in the security, risk and compliance management market. In this role, he was responsible for day-to-day operations and drove aggressive expansion into new and adjacent security markets, doubling sales during his two-year tenure. While there, Mr. Murphy played an instrumental role in defining IBM's security and management strategy.

Mr. Murphy also previously served as chief executive officer at Asera, head of the private equity investments group at Perot Systems, and as a partner at McKinsey & Company.

Mr. Murphy holds an M.B.A. from Stanford University, an M.S.E.E from Florida Atlantic University, and a B.S. in computer science from the University of Louisville and Florida Atlantic.
