IT Security Spending To Grow Even More In 2013, Study Says

Nearly half of enterprises plan to increase security spending next year, according to 451 Research study

Nearly half of companies surveyed are planning to increase their spending on IT security in 2013, according to figures released earlier this week.

According to a report issued by 451 Research, 47 percent of enterprises are predicting a bigger security budget in 2013, against only 8 percent who predicted a budget drop.

Some 45 percent of respondents said they increased their IT security budgets between 2011 and 2012. Ten percent saw their budgets decrease over the same period.

Among the 47 percent who predicted a budget increase, the majority said their increases would be in the 5 to 10 percent range. Eleven percent predicted an increase of between 11 and 24 percent, and an additional 7 percent said their predicted budget increases would be 25 to 50 percent more than last year.

Of the 8 percent who predicted a budget cut, most said the decrease would be in the 5 to 10 percent range.

Mobile device management, endpoint data leak prevention, and application-aware firewalls will benefit most from the increased budget dollars, 451 Research said.
