Nearly two-thirds of respondents said they rely on data compression, and at least 50% use encryption and disk-to-disk-to-tape backup; fewer than a quarter of respondents use data deduplication, though nearly a third are considering it. Other promising newer options -- thin provisioning and MAID (massive array of idle disks) -- are still in limited use (17% and 12%).
