NEC Adds CA Technologies Advanced Authentication To Provide A Robust Security Service From The Cloud

New cloud service offers authentication through identity links among multiple NEC websites

Feb 13, 2012 | 12:19 PM |

ISLANDIA, N.Y. and TOKYO, Feb. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) and CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) today announced that NEC will offer a new robust and scalable security solution as a cloud service that uses CA Technologies proven, cloud-ready advanced authentication technology.

The service will deliver a flexible security solution that helps operators and content / application providers address the need for multi-device, multi-service authentication. As smart phones and tablets continue to proliferate among business users and consumers, user identities become associated with multiple devices. As a result, carriers, corporations and governments need to streamline security and usability for their customers, employees and constituents across devices and services with a seamless and strong authentication system for both users and devices.

"Mobility increases the complexity of security and how to control access and use of services and applications," said Shigeru Okuya, Vice President and Senior General Manager, Carrier Services Operations Unit of NEC Corporation. "When we set out to deliver a cloud service for our customers that made security transparent and easy for their end-users, we chose CA Technologies. The company protects more than 150 million identities with its authentication technology and does it with combined convenience and security - something demanded by customers and end-users."

By integrating the CA ArcotID' secure software credential with NEC's NC7000-3A ID utilization infrastructure software, as well as the NEC Mobile Security, security countermeasure solution, the new cloud service offers authentication through identity links among multiple NEC websites. CA ArcotID provides protection for digital identities by delivering two-factor authentication with the simplicity and cost efficiency of a software solution versus, for example, a hardware token or smart card. Its addition enables integrated authentication services that provide a combination of user convenience and powerful security.

This service will help maintain ease-of-access for customers using smart phones and mobile tablets providing the same level of security as feature phones, while also making it easier to build services utilizing multi-device authentication and multiple service identities.

"We are excited to be working with NEC to solve this growing security challenge in the market," said Ram Varadarajan, general manager for CA Arcot Security solutions, CA Technologies. "With a proven track record in providing advanced authentication solutions delivered on premise and as a cloud service, CA Technologies solutions are designed with mobility in mind. We offer several differentiated authentication options for mobile applications and devices including one-time-password and PKI based solutions."

The new service will be made available beginning in March 2012 and will be offered in 30 countries around the world.

NEC expects that the primarily customers for this service will include telecommunications operators and providers of related content and services for whom smart phone security enhancement is an important issue.

Cloud Security Reports

report Monitoring And Measuring Cloud Providers' Security Performance
There is no ignoring the cloud, which means that IT professionals must find ways to monitor and measure the performance of cloud providers. While moving even in part to a cloud model is a big change for many reasons, the most significant difference is a loss of direct control. Just as security groups often struggle with managing security inside a corporation when in a governance role, we struggle even more with governing the security of assets that no longer sit within our own data centers. The challenge is to develop and implement a strong governance model for these cloud offerings that ensures that security is part of the conversation.

report How to Manage Identity in the Public Cloud
Use of the public cloud for enterprise applications complicates what was already a complicated task: identity management. As companies increase their use of cloud-based applications, IT and security professionals must make some tough and far-reaching decisions about how to provision, deprovision and otherwise manage user access. This Dark Reading report examines the options and provides recommendations for determining which one is right for your organization.

report Spot Trouble In The Cloud: Adapting Security Monitoring & Incident Response.
Security monitoring, incident response and forensics are essential, even in the cloud. But the cloud by definition implies relinquishing at least some control, which can make these practices problematic. In this report, we identify the challenges of detecting and responding to security issues in the cloud and discuss the most effective ways to address them.
