Bad guys woo singer's fans with promise of free custom iPads -- and steal their data instead

Lady Gaga fans recently were excited to learn that the popular singer has her own customized version of the iPad -- and was giving it away on her Facebook page.

Just one problem: Lady Gaga doesn't have a customized iPad and didn't know anything about the offer.

According to news reports about the Lady Gaga Facebook scam, hackers broke into the diva's page and placed the iPad offer to some 45 million of her Facebook friends.

The phishing attack lasted only about an hour before it was recognized and pulled down, according to the reports.

During that hour, Web page users were directed to a page hosted on the free Blogspot service, the reports say. Fans who clicked on the link and filled in the online form might have given their personal information to the scammers.

Other reports say that the Facebook pages of the bands Maroon 5 and Blink 182 were hit with similar scams. They might be bad hackers, but at least they have good taste in music.
